The screen flickered, the words urging difference, to a future not yet come,
I sit and I ponder of a time not yet passed.
Measures taken to ensure civility and honorable need not met,
They die in vain and with a heavy sigh, we are like they.

Discomfort and troubled trust clouds our perception of what we say and feel,
makes our future generations look on us in confusion, accidentally following.
We lead them into a darkness of hatred and mirthlessness,
damning body, soul and mind - we should be ashamed.

But are we? No. Our foolish pride is a wound that we do not wish to mend,
we fear what will betray us - we cannot decipher foe from friend.
Our hearts and minds only see that no one is to be trusted,
how foolish are we - children, mere infants we have become.

I speak from my mind and heart to our future, please hear me -
saluting will I to the findings and resolutions of peace will set you free.
The undiscovered country is to be had, but alas, I will not be a part,
it is for this reason, that knowing it will come will live forever in my heart.

Praying and hoping that will not be as hard it as somehow seems,
will we though, like they, ever achieve peace or will it be nothing more than a sublime dream?
Taken from Wm. Shakespeare's Hamlet.

The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?

Of course, it's Trek inspired, but I wrote this, thinking today. The last line came to me before I began to write it. Maybe I'm weird or something, but. . .I don't feel this is really poetic. It's more like I'm demanding something out of myself.

It scares me slightly. Am I changing? :rose:

Aww Hamlet. I love it when Shakespeare is quoted in my fandoms.

(note: I have yet to see movies number 5 and 6... of course you'll be notified when I finally got down to that)

I really do think so. And even if it's not your all-time best it's one of my favourites, I think. I think about this subject a bit more than anyone probably should.
